Celebrity Announces New “Suite Class” Taking Pampering to a New Level

Celebrity is now joining in on giving the ultimate in pampering by unveiling the “Suite Class” experience on their ships.  Exclusive new benefits include a suites-only restaurant, VIP lounge, complimentary premium beverages, plus much more. A personal butler will also be there to help take care of every need. This will truly be an over-the-top experience.

“Our guests are accustomed to exceptional quality and service, and for those wishing to further indulge in the very best while on vacation we have launched ‘Suite Class’, specially designed to appeal to the most discerning vacationer,” said Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Celebrity Cruises. “We know that suite guests value privacy, personalized service, exclusive access and flexibility, and providing them with their own unique benefits, such as a dedicated restaurant with a dining experience like no other, is just another way that we are significantly elevating the guest’s vacation with us.”

Reflection Suite Bathroom

There are 3 levels to the new “Suite Class”. The Entry Level is for guests staying in the Sky Suites. The Mid Level is for guest staying in the Signature Suites and the Celebrity Suites. Finally, the Top Level is for guests who are staying in the Royal Suite, Penthouse Suite, and the one of a kind Reflection Suite.  The higher the level the more amenities are offered to you. You can see these by clicking on the link below.

Some amenities included in the new “Suite Class” are:

Private dining – A dedicated private restaurant reserved exclusively for all Suite Class guests will be available morning, noon and night. Each meal will feature unique menus that offer sumptuous dishes not available anywhere else onboard. Guests can truly immerse themselves in the local culture with specially crafted menus inspired by the local destination, and enjoy the world’s best ingredients. Memorable and inspiring dishes will be served, from locally caught seafood, to the freshest pasta. The Suite Class chef can provide a tailor-made experience to suite guests and prepare a dish to their liking, and the Cellar Master – Celebrity’s head sommelier – will select from more than 450 wines to provide the perfect pairing.

Premium ‘all in’ benefits – Premium beverages, dining across all specialty restaurants, unlimited internet access and a private bar with water, sodas and beers will all be complimentary for guests staying in Royal, Penthouse and Reflection suites.

VIP lounge – A private VIP lounge, Michael’s Club, will be available to guests staying in Celebrity, Signature, Royal, Penthouse and Reflection suites. A dedicated Concierge service and unique food and beverage experiences by Celebrity’s James Beard- featured chef will be provided to guests.

This amazing news from Celebrity is another example of how the mainstream cruise lines are stepping up their product to their top end customers. Just last Month Norwegian Cruise Line introduced their Butler Drawn Bath Menu for guests staying in their suites and in The Haven. You can read more about that in my earlier post Being Pampered, What Would You Pay?.  If you can afford it these options sure seem like a great way to get pampered while on you cruise vacation.

Being Pampered, What Would You Pay?

When you hear the word “pampered”, what comes to mind?  The Webster’s Dictionary defines pamper as “to treat (someone or something) very well: to give (someone or something) a lot of attention and care.” For you, does it mean to be offered great food by a waiter? Maybe it means that someone will drop everything to help you out. Or does it mean that you get care beyond what you get in everyday life?

The Funnel Picture

The Funnel Picture

Norwegian Cruise Line is adding to what they think the word pamper means. Last week they announced the addition of a Butler-Drawn Bath Menu that will be available to all suite guests on their 12 ships. The menu features 7 different bath options that will surely make you feel like a queen. Your certified butler draws each bath. And, yes, if you are staying in The Haven, Norwegian’s ship within a ship concept, you can order from this menu.

What are these baths you maybe asking yourself?

For the ultimate in luxury, you may want to try the Mediterranean Soak. Your bath will be filled with French verbena bubbles. You will be served a glass of Dom Perignon champagne and feast on sturgeon caviar while you soak wearing an eye mask.

Mexican Riviera Retreat, where you can ease into a siesta with a lime
exfoliating body scrub with loofah. You will be enjoying the perfect nightcap of a freshly made, all natural margarita with 100% agave tequila, premium triple orange liqueur and fresh squeezed limes.

Caribbean Calm, you will feel like you are in the tropics while enjoying a passion fruit bath gel with exfoliator gloves, topped off with a hand- muddled Mojito prepared with Bacardi Superior, fresh mint and hand pressed limes.

Hawaiian Bloom, you will find your own tropical paradise by slipping into a plumeria milk bath with floating flowers and be treated to a coconut kiwi pineapple splash prepared with Bacardi Rock Coconut, pineapple juice, lemon lime soda with chunks of fresh pineapple and kiwi. You will be sure to find your own ALOHA spirit!

Alaskan Plunge, you will experience refreshing relaxation with pine bath salts and a back scratcher. After soaking, you can enjoy a cold pitcher of strawberry lemonade with Stolichnaya vodka, fresh strawberries and hand pressed lemons.

Great Island Oasis, you will slip into a seaweed eucalyptus bath, complete with bath pillow and passion punch made with passion fruit liqueur, vodka, fresh fruit juices and sparkling wine.

And don’t forget the kids because they need pampering too! With the Wonder Waterfall, your kids will love to splash around with kiwi fruit berry bath bombs. Then be treated to a yummy kid-friendly strawberry and banana smoothie.

For me, there isn’t a low enough price to make this worthwhile because I haven’t taken a bath in…well…I don’t remember the last time I have soaked in a bath. I am not the type who enjoys sitting in a bathtub. I am more of the “Take a shower and get on with your day” type of person. But for those who do enjoy their baths and find them relaxing, what would you pay for these bath experiences? The Mediterranean Soak will cost you only $499. To pamper your kids with the Wonder Waterfall will only set you back $49. All the other baths go for $99.

I am curious, how many of you think these baths are worth the price? How many of you think these are an inexpensive way to be pampered? How many of you would take advantage of having someone draw you a special bath like this? How many of you think I am crazy for not enjoying soaking in a bath? Please comment on your thoughts.

There is a New Princess

On Thursday The Duchess of Cambridge will officially christen the Royal Princess. The Royal Princess is the much talked about brand new ship from Princess Cruise Line. The christening ceremony, will start at 6:15 am eastern time/5:15 central time, will be streamed live on Princess Cruises’ website If your not freak like I am and set an alarm so you can get up and watch this special event, you can watch a replay of the christening ceremony online.

Back when the Norwegian Breakaway was christened I did a post featuring photos of the ship that were shared over social media. I decided I would do another post like that for the Royal Princess. So without further a-do, let me shut my mouth (finger) and let the pictures do the talking. Here are some of the pictures that have came out since she has arrived in Southampton.

What a beautiful ship she is.

These show the much talked about SeaWalk, a glass bottomed walkway that extend 28 feet off the side of the ship.

Next up is a few pictures of the adults only Sanctuary.

The atrium on the Royal Princess is where the action will be since it will be the social hub of the ship!

Finally the outside areas of this beautiful ship.

Thank you to everyone tweeting pictures of this beautiful ship and congratulations to Princess Cruise Line on their newest addition.

Liebster Award

Woohoo! Marian, from The Travel Shop Girl blog, nominated me for the Liebster Blog Award. This is a blogger’s way of saying “You’re one of my favorites! Good job!” (Liebster is German for “favorite”). Thank you Marian.

Here are the rules of the Liebster Award:

  • When you receive the award, you post 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions from the person who nominated you.
  • Pass the award onto 11 other blogs (make sure you tell them you nominated them!) and ask them 11 questions.
  • You are not allowed to nominate the blog who nominated you!
  • Make sure the blogs you choose have 200 or less followers.
  • Include a link to the person who nominated you & let them know about your post

Here are the 11 facts about me. I hope these don’t bore you too much, since I am not the most interesting person in the world.

  1. I am a farm boy. I grew up on a family farm and still work on the farm. We grow vegetables to sell at the farmer’s markets in the Madison, WI area.
  2. I am married to a wonderful woman and have one daughter. As I am writing this, I literally have the phone next to me because my wife is due any day now with my second daughter.
  3. Even though I live in Wisconsin, I HATE cold weather!
  4. I love anything that has to do with the outdoors! I am not happy when I am trapped inside. This could be why I hate winter (refer to #3).
  5. I am really hard on cell phones! I used to have a tendency to run cell phones through the washing machine. I found out that a clean cell phone doesn’t work as well as it did before I washed it. Also if you refer to #1, I work in an environment that isn’t good for cell phones.
  6. I am a cheapskate! I am always looking for ways to save money. I like to call it being frugal.
  7. I am a “people watcher”. I like to sit back and watch the crazy things people do.
  8. I love to play poker. I have always loved math that I can do in my head and making my mind work in everyday life. Some of this may have to do with fact #7 as well.
  9. If you follow me on Twitter, you may know I tweet a lot about rum. While I do like rum, I rarely drink anymore. When I was younger, drinking got me into a little bit of trouble and I realized that the trouble wasn’t worth the fun.

10. I am captivated by the water.  From the ocean to the smaller lakes around here, I love anything that has to do with the water.

11. I like to figure out how things work. If I can, I like to tear things apart just to see what makes them work.

The 11 questions asked of me by Marian

1. Favorite mode of transportation: Airplane, train, ship, boat, car, or something else?

This is a hard one. While I hate the whole logistics of air travel, the places I like to travel to, are accessed the easiest by flying.
2. If you could pick anywhere in the world to live for the next few years, where would it be and why?

This one is really easy for me. Those who know me know I am absolutely in love with Hawaii.

The smaller Kahuna Falls
3. What big trip do you have planned for 2013?

The one thing that I am really looking forward to is the Cruise Family Reunion.  We are cruising with a group of cruise experts/bloggers on the Norwegian Sky this July. We would love all of you who are reading this to come along with us on this fun-filled trip. Visit for more details on this event of the year.

4. What’s your favorite travel app?

The one app that you HAVE to have on your phone if you like to cruise is ShipMateApp. This app has everything you want to know about cruising.

5. Do you prefer snowy destinations or warm weather destinations and why?

Warm weather destination is my choice. Refer to the #3 fact about me above.

6. How many languages can you speak?

Only English.

7. Would you rather fly Business or First class and spend less on your hotel or resort or fly Economy class and spend more on your hotel or resort?

Save the money on economy and spend it on the resort. You spend more time at the resort so why not splurge on it.

8. Do you generally pack your bags for a trip well in advance or right before you leave?

Right before I leave. I am a procrastinator like that!

9. Best cruise advice for your readers?

Just go and have fun! You are going on vacation to relax so go and have a good time.

10. Have you ever traveled somewhere that thought felt like “home” more than home did?

Yes, in Hawaii. I feel so at ease in Hawaii and would love to make that home.
11. Are you an early riser or do you prefer to stay up late?

I am an early riser. With a kid I like to get up early and get stuff done before it gets hectic when everyone wakes up.

Now the questions for my nominees:

  1. When did the travel bug bite you?
  2. What destination have you travel to that you could travel to over and over again?
  3. What activity have you done on your travels that what out of your comfort zone?
  4. Name one thing that you hate about traveling. Why?
  5. What tops your travel bucket list? Why?
  6. What have you learned about yourself because of your travels?
  7. What foods have you ate during your travels that you never would have eaten at home?
  8. What advise would you give to others who want to become travel writers?
  9. What destination do you have no desire to travel to?
  10. What is the one thing you cannot travel without?
  11. If you could take a “travel newbie” with you, where would you take them?

Once again I would like to thank Marian for nominating me. It was a ton of fun! Now, here are my nominees. I hope you all take this on and have as much fun as me.

Ketchikan Activities? Here’s Some Ideas.

Last post I tough briefly on the city of Ketchikan, Alaska the first port of call on our Alaska Cruise Tour 2013. This time I will highlight some of the activities you can participate in while you are in port. Most of what I will tell you is shore excursions offered by either the cruise line or a separate shore excursion company, but you can also go of and explore the town on your own. You can visit Creek Street and see the unique shops that now occupy the bars and brothels that were there during the gold rush days. There is a free shuttle taking cruise passengers downtown from berth 4.

If you like the more organized tours of your port of call, you can check out the many shore excursions offered in Ketchikan.  The cruise lines offer you the ability to pre book your excursions online or even book them while on board the ship.  They offer you the assurance that you will make it back to the ship in time for departure.  There are a few shore excursion providers not affiliated with the cruise lines that now offer the assurance that they will get you back to port.

Some excursions are designed for people who are active while others are designed for those who like a challenge.  One of the easier excursions is to take a Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles boat tour.  After a short bus rides from the dock you will board a vessel and see Tongass National Forest, historic Ward Cove Cannery, Guard Island Lighthouse, and Totem Bight State Park. You can enjoy the sights from either the heated cabin or from the observation deck.

Another one of the easier options is to experience what crab fishermen do. You will board the Allutian Ballad, a crab-fishing vessel that was featured in season two of the “Deadliest Catch”, where you will watch the crew pull a crab pot filled with crab. They will also pull other types of traps and pots used to catch other species.

If you Like fishing you can go on an Alaskan Fishing and Wilderness dining Expedition. You will be outfitted and take out to experience bottom fishing. Then you will enjoy a meal of freshly caught fish before returning to your ship.

The Alaskan Bear and Adventure flight excursion takes you by float plane into the Tongass National Forest and after a ¼ mile walk you will be able to spend time watching Bear fish for salmon. You will also get the opportunity to see eagles waiting for scraps left by the bears or even catching their own fish dinner.  When doing an excursion dealing with wildlife you need to keep in mind that seeing wildlife is not guaranteed but they do all they can to make it happen.

With all these activities there is plenty to look forward to at our first stop on our Alaska Cruise Tour 2013. You can learn more about our cruise tour at:

Celebrity Reflection Arrives in Miami

Photo from @passiocrociere

The Celebrity Reflection arrived in Miami, her homeport for the winter months, yesterday.  She will begin sailing her 7-day Caribbean sailing on Saturday December 8, 2012 after a couple shorter sailings.

The Celebrity Reflection is the 5th and final planned ship in the Celebrity Solstice Class. The Reflection will accommodate up to 3,046 guests and will have one more deck that the other Solstice-class ships. The Reflection will also be the first Celebrity ship with Aqua-class suites.

The naming ceremony took place yesterday in the Reflection Theater before she sets sail on her first cruise from Miami.  During the ceremony, all the typical pageantry took place including the blessing of the ship and the breaking of the bottle against her funnel. The four godmothers of the Reflection were also introduced. The godmothers are employees of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., the parent company of Celebrity Cruises, who have been touched by breast cancer in their lives.  The names of the godmothers are: Jovanka Goronjic, Megan Mathie, Helen O’Connell and Rosey Rodriguez.

Many people were tweeting from on board the Celebrity Reflection yesterday. I will share some of the tweets now with you.

Have you traveled anywhere recently that has become your favorite? Why?

Mrs O Around the World Interview

In my newsletters, I wanted to start featuring blogs that I love. This has morphed into doing an interview with the blogger and showing the full interview on my blog here. So in my second attempt at featuring a blog in my newsletter, here is the post of the interview. You can sign up to receive my newsletter by clicking here.

Ana Silva-O’Reilly (@mrsoaroundworld) is a blogger I have been following for a few months now. I really enjoy her content and her pictures are amazing. She loves to travel and loves to help others by giving them insight into her travel. I interviewed Ana this past week and here is the transcript.

Meet Mrs. O

Mrs. O Around the

Excited by all good things in life, Mrs O spends a significant part of her life travelling around the world and having a bit of fun. is the place to come if you want to know where to go for your next lux weekend or proper holiday getaway. She loves travel, loves people and she loves shoes. You can visit her blog, follow her on Twitter or like (and love) on Facebook

Where are you from originally and where do you now call home?

I am originally from Lisbon, Portugal but love made me move to the pretty town of Henley on Thames, in the English countryside!

How long have you been a travel blogger? started at the end of 2011, so a little over 8 months. Hadn’t realised how quickly time goes by!

How did you become so interested in travel and writing about it?

To be honest, it is my parents’ fault. We have always had nice holidays and it was always part of our lives. Writing about it? A complete accident! It all started on Twitter late last year – friends always asked me for recommendations here and there and I always had some emails ready to fire away. With the blog, I am just making available such tips and experiences to a wider audience.

Where have you been and what destinations were your favorites? And why?

My favourite verb, is indeed go. I know Europe and North America pretty well, and have recently discovered a bit of South America, which I love. From Asia, I have only been to China. But technically, have been “around the world” on my honeymoon which took us to Australia, Tahiti, US and back to England.

What content can reader expect to find in your blog?

My mother always told me (and still does) that “if you are leaving home, it has to be better”. So I am a good girl and do as I am told. I love going away to nice places, which means hotels will be pretty nice and the destinations not bad either. But like most people, I have limited resources, so need to be organised in order to make them go as far as possible, so no hotels which costs an arm or a leg. I would say $300-500 would be the absolute maximum, so technically affordable. I don’t like reading magazines where I cannot even dream of going!

Have you ever been cruising?

To be honest, I never thought I would – just not my thing. So I was quite surprised when I found myself accepting an invitation to try it out recently. I spent a weekend onboard MSC Splendida’s Yacht Club, which is a ship inside a ship and really enjoyed it. Who says people can’t change their mind? I had a lot of fun, especially shooting some films, which was a first to me!

Any thing else you want other people to know about you and your blog?

I am a girl who likes travelling. A lot. And shoes too. I only write about places I have been and loved, and doing it for fun. If I can inspire one single person to go somewhere, try a place and love it, I have fulfilled my ambition.
