This amazing news from Celebrity is another example of how the mainstream cruise lines are stepping up their product to their top end customers. Just last Month Norwegian Cruise Line introduced their Butler Drawn Bath Menu for guests staying in their suites and in The Haven. You can read more about that in my earlier post Being Pampered, What Would You Pay?.  If you can afford it these options sure seem like a great way to get pampered while on you cruise vacation.

There is a New Princess

On Thursday The Duchess of Cambridge will officially christen the Royal Princess. The Royal Princess is the much talked about brand new ship from Princess Cruise Line. The christening ceremony, will start at 6:15 am eastern time/5:15 central time, will be streamed live on Princess Cruises’ website If your not freak like I am and set an alarm so you can get up and watch this special event, you can watch a replay of the christening ceremony online.

Back when the Norwegian Breakaway was christened I did a post featuring photos of the ship that were shared over social media. I decided I would do another post like that for the Royal Princess. So without further a-do, let me shut my mouth (finger) and let the pictures do the talking. Here are some of the pictures that have came out since she has arrived in Southampton.

What a beautiful ship she is.

These show the much talked about SeaWalk, a glass bottomed walkway that extend 28 feet off the side of the ship.

Next up is a few pictures of the adults only Sanctuary.

The atrium on the Royal Princess is where the action will be since it will be the social hub of the ship!

Finally the outside areas of this beautiful ship.

Thank you to everyone tweeting pictures of this beautiful ship and congratulations to Princess Cruise Line on their newest addition.

Social Media Showing Off The Norwegian Breakaway

Don’t you just love social media? Remember the days when you had to wait for the event to be over and the newspaper to come out before you saw pictures of it? Those days are gone! With sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram; we can see whats going on almost as its happening. Of course, we also have to thank smart phones for helping out with this feat.

This past week the Norwegian Breakaway was christened in New York City. She is the largest cruise ship to be positioned full time in New York. The build up to the event on May 8, 2013 was huge and everyone in the cruise industry was talking about it. Norwegian Cruise  Line also set up a live video theme of the ceremony. At one point, I saw a tweet that there were almost 6,500 viewers on the live feed but that number dropped as they experienced a few technical problems with it.NorwegianBreakaway.jpg

Then she set sail and we have been seeing pictures and comments come in over twitter and other social media sites. I sorted through some of the tweets and picked out my favorites to show. The picture above was tweeted many times and I can’t seem to find the original person who tweeted it to give credit.

Norwegian Cruise Line was busy posting pictures to their Instagram page. It looks like they are proud of her and want to show her off. Here are some of the pictures from their account.

She has arrived! #norwegianbreakawayis docked in #nyc! Check out the view of the city.

The @rockettes just christened #NYC’s newest ship, #norwegianbreakaway! Time to celebrate!

The incredible Slam Allen is lighting up the room with another amazing performance at Fat Cats On#norwegianbreakaway

Enjoy the most beautiful view of the Freedom Tower in #nyc from deck of#norwegianbreakaway!

You can even chill at Fat Cats on the Waterfront on #norwegianbreakaway!

Ok I know what some of you are thinking; These are professionally taken photos from the cruise line to make their ship look good. For this reason I sat down and searched twitter for passengers pictures of the ship. There were plenty to chose from so here are some of my favorites.

I think those are some impressive photos from people who were already lucky enough to sail on her. I can’t wait to get my turn to see her in person

Carnival Triumph in the News Again

A severe storm in Mobile, Alabama yesterday was blamed for the Carnival Triumph breaking loose from her moorings while she was in wet dock getting repairs from engine room fire that blasted her into the news. This all comes almost within a year since the Triumph made news by getting caught up in a legal mess last March (Thoughts on the Carnival Triumph Fiasco) . Carnival can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to this ship.
I couldn’t help to think if this were my car, I’d be looking to get rid of her. But then again, I didn’t pay around 450 million dollars to have my car built. I also don’t use my car as my main source of income and don’t have passengers booked to spend their vacation in my car.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the shipyard workers injured in this accident and the one, who as of last night, is still missing.
If what they say about bad luck coming in strings of three is true, the Carnival Triumph maybe now one of the safest ships to sail on (When she starts sailing again).

The Cruise Family Announces Plans to Form New Cruise Line

The Cruise Family, a group of cruise experts and bloggers on Twitter, announced today they plan to form a new cruise line.
The news was broke in a press conference held in the cruising hot bed of Cleveland, Ohio. Spokesman for the group, Mike Faust, says “The new line will offer a great vacation while helping to save the environment and fight obesity at the same time.” He adds, “We plan on making our ships as green as possible.”
Reports say that their first ship, which has yet to be named, will be powered by a unique source. All indications point to pedal power being used to propel the ship. When asked, Faust explained “At this time, we are not ready to release the details on how the ship will be the cleanest cruise ship sailing. I will say however, we will have the fittest passengers ever by the end of the cruise.”
The cruise line expects to be operating in the waters of the Great Lakes and will offer some very exciting ports of call. Faust explains, “This is a region we think could use an expanded cruise option!”
The Cruise Family expects to release more details of this venture on the Cruise Family Reunion held this July 5th. They invite everyone to join them on this fun-filled 3 day cruise.

Titanic II Hotel or Cruise Ship?

Danielle, Aka @CruiseMiss, recently wrote in her blog; Titanic II A Legacy Or A Curse; her feelings about the plans to build the Titanic II. This plan is being pursued by Australian business man, Clive Palmer, and has the whole cruise world debating on if it’s a good or bad idea. Here is an excerpt from Danielle’s post, to read her whole post click here.

“Is there a demand for this type of vessel? I don’t really think there is however if she did come along I know many people would be truly fascinated by her and it would certainly be something very different indeed for our modern times.

Could she sustain herself? Maybe, there are one or two cruise lines with just one vessel and they manage to survive however, they are modern vessels with all the modern luxuries we crave whilst at sea.

I think the subject of Titanic II will forever have a divide and my own feelings lean me towards the “not such a great idea” area.”

Her post got me thinking more about if this is a good idea or not. For the most part’ I agree with Danielle that there won’t be a demand for this ship. This is especially true after the first couple of years, after the Titanic enthusiast and history buffs take their cruise. So does this mean I think it’s a bad idea to build this ship? Whoa…wait a moment before go that far!!

While I think that this won’t work as a cruise ship, I think that it could possibly be a good idea to make it into a floating hotel. A few points on why I believe this:

  1. The cost to spend a couple nights on the Titanic II would be far less than taking the Trans-Atlantic cruise. This would encourage the interested people to do this if they couldn’t afford the weeklong cruise
  2. This would cost less to operate, as the fuel would not be need to propel her through the water. The electrical and water systems could be hooked up to city utilities.
  3. The main dinning room could be made into a fine dinning restaurant that could be open to the public instead of just the people aboard the cruise.
  4. They could also build in a Titanic museum into the ship that would be open to the public therefore, increasing the possible revenue.

Am I saying this is a great idea, not even close? What I am saying is that, in my opinion, it works far better as a hotel than it does as a cruise ship.titanicII

So what are your thoughts, I want to hear them. Am I way off line on this thinking? Do you have any ideas or should the whole Titanic II idea be scraped altogether. Please leave your comments telling me what you think.

DreamWorks and Royal Caribbean

I think everyone with kids have seen these and has seen the kids love them. I’m also ready to bet that the parents and even the adults without kids love them too. I am talking about the DreamWorks movies and characters. With 24 animated feature films, including the franchise properties of Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon; you can say that DreamWorks is on the top of their game.

Sail away party on the Liberty of the Seas

This past week, Royal Caribbean International announced they are expanding their partnership with DreamWorks Animation. They will be adding the DreamWorks Experience to a sixth ship, Mariner of the Seas when she arrives in the Far East this coming May. This partnership began when Princess Fiona, from the Shrek movies, inaugurated the Allure of the Seas as her godmother. It has since been expanded to the Oasis of the Seas, sailing from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Freedom of the Seas from Port Canaveral on Florida’s Space Coast; Liberty of the Seas, which splits her year between Port Everglades and Barcelona, Spain; and recently, Voyager of the Seas in the Far East and Australia and New Zealand.

Character Parade on the Allure of the Seas

“Royal Caribbean continues to be the perfect host for the DreamWorks Experience and this expansion agreement ensures that more and more fans will have the opportunity to interact with our characters and properties,” said Kerry Phelan, Head of Worldwide Licensing for DreamWorks Animation.

“Royal Caribbean is the only cruise line to offer the DreamWorks Experience to vacationers throughout the world and we are delighted to expand our partnership with DreamWorks,” said Lisa Bauer, executive vice president of Global Sales and Marketing, Royal Caribbean International. “The DreamWorks Experience really resonates with our guests since we launched it aboard Allure of the Seas. We worked with DreamWorks Animation to create an incomparable entertainment experience for our guests, no matter what their age, and their feedback has been nothing short of stellar.”

The ships that have the DreamWorks Experience feature parades, themed activities and events involving the beloved characters from the DreamWorks films. The ships are also equipped with a 3-D theater showing the latest DreamWorks animated films. They also feature the popular DreamWorks Character breakfast in the main dining room, where you can meet with the characters while you are served breakfast, as well as plenty of photo opportunities throughout the day. Fellow travel agent and friend, Monica Tillotson, and I were able to stop for a photo opportunity with Puss In Boots on a recent ship inspection of the Oasis of the Seas.

This is just one of the reasons Royal Caribbean is a leading cruise line for families of all ages.

Norwegian Getaway Hull Artwork Announced

While I prefer a nice “clean” look of a white bow on cruise ships, the artwork on the bows of Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) ships serves it purpose. You can pick out a NCL ship from a long ways away and can definitely say that it is NCL. If you are really into them, like me, you can even tell which ship it is because each one has a different mural on them.

The artist and hull artwork were released for the Norwegian Getaway yesterday. Well-known Miami artist, David “LEBO” Le Batard, was introduced at an event held at his art studio.  Here they introduced the design to be featured on the hull of the Getaway when she launches in January of 2014. The artwork features a whimsical tropical ocean theme complete with a mermaid holding the sun, pelicans and palm trees. This artwork reflects her home port city of Miami where she will sail year round seven-day cruises to the Eastern Caribbean beginning on February 1, 2014, with ports of call including Philipsburg, St. Maarten; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Nassau, Bahamas.

Norwegian Getaway Hull Design

“Norwegian Getaway will be Miami’s ship and, therefore, we wanted to ensure that her hull was designed by an artist with strong ties to Miami and the Latin community,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “Having begun his career in South Florida, Dave is an artist that is entrenched here. His work adorns the city and I’ve learned that he is also a genuinely nice guy. He is a shining star in Miami, as well as the global art community.”

David “LEBO” Le Batard

“LEBO’s incredible design reflects all of the elements that Miami is known for sea, sun and paradise,” said Sheehan. “This artwork will surely make Norwegian Getaway an iconic part of the Miami skyline when she arrives as Miami’s largest year-round ship in 2014.”

The Norwegian Getaway, which is currently being built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, will be 146,600 gross tons and offer a wide range of accommodations. She will offer an opportunity for guest to “get away” from the same old routine and find a true respite at sea that reflects the energy and culture that Miami is known for worldwide.

What do you think of the mural that will be featured on her hull?
